Welcome to Our8thGens!

Welcome and we’re glad to have you here.  This is a forum and blog dedicated solely to 8th generation (2008-2012) Honda Accords.  We’re a community of casual Accord owners and die-hard Accord enthusiasts with more knowledge about this platform than you’ll find anywhere else.  We hope for this to be a more community-driven approach… everything from user submitted rotating header photos to new ideas and sections being added based on user suggestion and input.  This is a place for all of us to feel like we can contribute.

We got our start as a spin off of an existing forum specifically for 8th generation Honda Accords.  This forum was great for several years, and a lot of the people that are familiar with each other here, and on the Facebook group, met there.  However, for whatever reason, one day the other forum went down.  Fast forward nearly two years later, and the forum was still down.  The community had been dealing with only having a Facebook group for far too long.  I began reaching out to some of those who I knew had been around much longer than I (you’ll see them marked on the forum with blue names)… asking them what they thought about the idea of branching off and creating something new… what it would take to get them to be a part of it, or if they were loyal and hopeful the other forum would come back up.

As it turns out, I wasn’t the only one who was tired of only having a Facebook group.  While the immediacy and the notifications of Facebook make it great for some things, it’s group search function is a little lacking (not to mention absent on Facebook’s Android app).  Facebook groups in general are just not very conducive to lengthy do-it-yourself type posts with tons of pictures, or posts full of part numbers to do a trunk conversion.  Once I knew I had the support of some of the long time members, the more I wanted to make this become a reality… to give back to the community I had learned so much from during my Accord ownership.

We started kicking around names trying to come up with something to distinguish ourselves from the other group… trying to be our own thing.  Many ideas were mentioned and we debated over it for close to two whole weeks.  After much discussion and debate, we landed on the name Our8thGens.   While it is unfortunately similar to the existing group’s name, it had some pretty significant meaning to us.  It stood for an evolution of something that once was.  A regrouping of old members the other site’s admin had burnt bridges with over petty issues.  Most importantly of all, the word our was chosen in an attempt to project the message that we wanted to be a more community-driven environment.  Nobody really had any say in how the forums were being run, what sections were relevant, or needed addressing.  We wanted to change this.  We wanted everyone to feel welcome and as if they contribute.

After we had a name, the domain and hosting were purchased on October 30th, 2014 and progress began immediately.  On November 7th, we got antsy and announced the forum to other group.  The outpouring of support was incredible.  People didn’t seem to care that we were still working on the site, but were overwhelmed that a new working forum was back online for us to share our trials and triumphs on our cars.  In just a little over a month we’re approaching near 250 registered members!  Several people have donated to the site, even more have bought stickers to help support the site.  We can’t be more grateful for all of the support we’ve gotten.  We’re truly excited to watch this grow and be a useful resource to anyone who owns an 8th generation Honda Accord, or even those who are considering buying one.
