Melvin Gutierrez’s 2009 EX-L V6 Coupe
This coupe is shaping up to be one of our favorite coupes in the southeast. It has lots of custom touches that help it stand out from the pack. Things like the custom molded canards on the front bumper are the type of custom we do not seem to see enough of. Our Accord of the Month for June 2016 is Melvin Gutierrez’s 2009 EX-L V6 coupe. This car has a killer color combination going on and we’re excited to see what other custom work is in store for this coupe.
Melvin spent a good deal of time in the headlights of his coupe and they turned out really clean. He kept it relatively simple overall, adding projectors to the high beam housing and adding RGB demon eyes behind each one of them. The corner lights were deleted and molded over like they were never even there. Combine this with the XB LED fog lights from forum sponsor The Retrofit Source and switchback LED turn signals and you’ve got one mean lighting setup!
Melvin’s spent a good bit of time and money on the front end of his coupe and it certainly has come out aggressive — and we love it! He started off with some simpler touches, like painting the front grille a factory Honda black, Nighthawk Black Pearl. The Honda Factory Performance front lip and the Aeroflow V2 front splitter are a perfect pair on Melvin’s coupe. The plastic molded front bumper canards were done by Hyper Formance and they turned out gorgeous! It’s always refreshing to see something new on our platform.
Even with all of the great custom touches, these wheels will steal your attention regardless. These are the Avant Garde M621 in Gold Bullion finish and they look amazing against the San Marino Red paint. The fronts are 20″ x 10″ +25mm wrapped in 255/35 Hankook Ventus V12s and the rears are 20″ x 11″ +35mm wrapped in 255/45 Hankook Ventus V12s also. Melvin’s coupe is lowered on BC’s BR type coilovers with the addition of the SPC adjustable ball joints up front and the JPower 3 arm camber kit in the rear to achieve this look.
Melvin’s added the Honda Factory Performance rear lip to his coupe. He also added a decklid spoiler and had it painted Nighthawk Black Pearl as well. To help tie in the red, Melvin had his tail lights covered in red as well as had the chrome door handles that came on the V6 color matched to the San Marino Red. The JDM style red badges just help complete the theme!
Melvin has been grabbing attention since he first got his Avant Gardes, and with the help of Hyper Formance I feel sure he will continue to do so. The two are constantly planning the next move and we absolutely cannot wait to see what the future holds. Make sure to follow this build on Instagram and check out what Melvin is talking about on the forum!
A few words from Melvin:
Shout out to Tony Nguyen. The guy that inspired me to get an Accord and also my man Robert Brent Click (Hyper Formance) for making this build happen. We have come a long way on this build and there is still more to come!
