Refrofitting Headlights!

by milmast » November 10th, 2014

So I wanna give my OEM headlights a little bit of love and I want to retrofit them with better projectors and then black out the housing. I've never had to retrofit headlights before so this is all kind of new to me. I've got no idea what kind of projector I should get, along with how the heck to remove my OEM projector to put the new one in. Help? :)

coolblue would be a good person to start talking to as he's done several coupe retrofits. As far as which projectors to put in, browse our sponsor, TheRetrofitSource's website! We should have a discount code we can use on their site soon.

I've got the idea on how to do a retrofit for a headlight setup that is a reflector type. I'm not sure as to go abouts doing a retrofit on headlights that are already a projector. Are there screws in the headlight assembly that I can simply unscrew the projector out and replace it with a new one? I've never done this before. Retrofit virgin ;)

You might pm Zlatan Avdicil on FB..I know he replaced his OEM Projector...You might MOD it if you replace the OEM Projector.

Here's some photos that you have idea. I just replaced the OEM lenses to Clear Lense.

Thanks for the info! Did you notice a difference in visibility with the change of lenses?

The stock projectors are cast into the frame around them, so a retrofit is going to be a bit more work than most other installs. I would basically plan on sacrificing the stock projector as grounds to mount the new projector. Basically cut most of it away but leaving a mounting surface for the new projector, such as about an inch of the stock reflector bowl of the projector itself.

The S2000 would be a solid replacement and is notoriously one of the better performing low beam projectors out there. The Mini H1 is my recommendation for a Bi-Xenon projector if you prefer that instead.

As for clear lenses, this guide can help clarify just what these lenses do for your projectors: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/knowit ... enses.html.

Bump!

Now, figure you have the sedan, which has reflectors................................................. is it possible to do a projector retrofit in that case? Since the sedan has halogen reflectors... it LOOKS like the reflector bowls can just come right out, although. I'm not completely sure. Just judging from how its seated in the entire assembly. I would love to do a projector retrofit... I just want to figure out how the heck to get started lol.

Of course you can. No need to remove the reflector bowl really though. DOOM just posted the other day his quad retrofit. It's pretty impressive. Lots of people (myself included) will just go with the Morimoto Mini H1 as it's one of the easier ones to install.

Here's a shot of my retro. Pretty simple setup.
